Yardistry Meridian Gazebo Sizes: 8x8 to 12x20 (and the Accessories Worth Adding)

Yardistry is the brand our crews assemble most: 64 mentions in our records, most of them Costco kits, and the Meridian cedar line is on Amazon in every size. The size people buy most is 12x14 (57 mentions), the size people ask about most is 10x12 (66 mentions, the permit sweet spot), and 12x16 (29) is the outdoor-dining size. 8x8 fits a hot tub, the 12 ft octagon fits a round yard, 12x20 is the biggest and usually needs a permit check. Once it is up, four Meridian accessories are worth the money: the bar counter, the privacy wall, the mesh kit and the rain gutters.
Why listen to us: Zomg The Handyman crews have assembled 2,500+ gazebos across all of California, years of work that predates our current booking system. Since April 2026 alone that system logged 45 completed gazebo, pergola and canopy assemblies in 30 California cities and 129 written gazebo and pergola quotes, and those recent job sheets are the numbers quoted in these guides. We are not reviewing boxes we have never opened. Everything below comes from kits our crews stood up, squared and anchored, or from what customers asked us before buying. Yardistry Meridian builds this year include a 10x12 with a gutter kit in Loma Linda (three pros, 5.1 hours), a 12x14 with a privacy wall in Tustin (three pros), a 12x16 on homeowner-set piers in Clovis (one pro, 7.5 hours), a 12x16 anchored to concrete in Mission Viejo (two pros, 8 hours), a three-gazebo 12x14 quote in Sherman Oaks and a 12x14 before a weekend party in Livermore.

Our Picks
Which Meridian Size Fits Your Yard
| Size | Roof area | Fits | Permit note (California) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8x8 | 64 sq ft | Hot tub, two chairs and a table | Well under the 120 sq ft exemption many cities use |
| 10x12 | 120 sq ft | Four to six seat dining | Right at the line; setbacks still apply |
| 12x12 | 144 sq ft | Round table or seating circle | Usually a permit check |
| 12x14 | 168 sq ft | Dining for six with walk-around | Usually a permit check |
| 12x16 | 192 sq ft | Long table plus grill or counter zone | Permit check; HOA approval often asked |
| 12 ft octagon | about 120 sq ft | Round table, hot tub, garden focal point | Often at the line; check the measured footprint |
| 12x20 | 240 sq ft | Dining plus lounge | Plan on a permit |
Roof size is not post size: the posts sit inside the roof line and the eave overhangs on every side. Our California gazebo permit guide covers the exemption thresholds and setbacks; permits and HOA rules came up 4 times in our records and one Bay Area customer needed HOA architectural approval before we could start.
What the Crews See on Yardistry Builds
Pre-drilled cedar and an aluminum roof: Yardistry kits go together cleanly, but they are hundreds of screws and the roof panels go up on ladders. Crew size tracks the size of the kit. Our Loma Linda 10x12 was three pros in about five hours with the gutter kit; Clovis 12x16 was one pro in 7.5 hours because the homeowners had already set the piers; Mission Viejo 12x16 with anchoring to concrete was two pros in 8 hours. A 12x14 with a privacy wall in Tustin took three pros.
Anchoring came up in 176 of our 313 records, more than any other topic. On a slab we drill the base plates and set concrete screw anchors; on pavers we core to the base or pour footings; on dirt it is footings. A Sherman Oaks customer ordering three 12x14 kits supplied the anchors; most people do not, so we bring them. Haul-away came up 51 times: a Meridian arrives as a lot of cardboard.
Cedar needs sealing. Yardistry's cedar ships pre-stained, and in California sun it wants a fresh coat every year or two. Our staining guide has the schedule.
Already Own a Meridian? The Four Accessories Worth Adding
These bolt onto the Meridian frame and we install them on the same visit or on their own.
- 10 ft Meridian Bar Counter Attachment. Turns one side into a serving counter. Turns the sunny side into a serving or buffet counter. Bar counter on Amazon
- 10 ft Meridian Wooden Privacy Wall. Blocks the neighbor side or the low sun. Our Tustin 12x14 had one. Privacy walls came up 5 times in our records and "pergola with privacy wall" is one of the searches that brings people here. Privacy wall on Amazon
- 12x20 Meridian Mesh Kit (4 panels). Mosquito mesh sized for the 12x20. Netting and screens were mentioned 25 times in our records; measure post-to-post first, because fit is the return. Mesh kit on Amazon
- 12x14 Meridian Rain Gutters. Keeps the drip line off the walkway. We fitted a gutter kit in Loma Linda. Gutters appeared 3 times in our records, always as an add-on at assembly time, which is the cheapest moment to fit them. Rain gutters on Amazon
Yardistry also sells a 6.7x7.8 Meridian cedar greenhouse in the same cedar and hardware; we assemble those too.
Measure Before You Buy (Cuts Returns)
Big outdoor kits are the items most likely to go back, and almost every return we hear about is a fit problem, not a quality problem. Spend ten minutes with a tape before you order. For a Meridian, measure for the roof overhang, then measure again for any privacy wall or bar counter you plan to add: both need clear space beside the posts.
- Roof size is not post size. A "12x14" is the roof. The posts sit inside that line, and the eave sticks out past the posts on every side. Measure the pad for the roof and leave at least 2 to 3 feet of walk-around beyond the roof line so you can mow, open a gate and get the roof panels up on ladders.
- Height clearance. Check eaves, fence tops, the patio cover you already have and tree limbs. One of our jobs was moving a pergola 40 feet across a slab to clear a 10 foot lemon tree with a pergola that only had 7.5 feet of clearance. Measure the highest point of the roof on the spec sheet, then add a foot for the crew to lift panels into place.
- What is under it. Anchoring came up in 176 of the 313 gazebo records we pulled, more than any other topic. A level concrete slab is the easy case. Pavers are not a foundation: they shift, so we drill through to the base or pour footings. Dirt, grass or decomposed granite means poured footings (we did 29 footing conversations in this window). A wood deck means through-bolting to joists, never to the deck boards.
- Is the slab level? Leveling or an uneven pad came up 27 times. Lay a long level or a straight board across the pad in both directions. A slab that drops an inch over 12 feet still works, but tell the crew so they bring shims and a plan.
- Permits and HOA. Many California cities exempt a detached, open-sided structure under 120 square feet (about 10x12) from a building permit, but setbacks from the property line still apply and HOAs can be stricter than the city. Larger units and anything bolted to a slab may need a permit. One customer in the Bay Area needed HOA architectural approval and a no-drill anchor plan before we could start. Read our California gazebo permit guide before you order.
- Delivery reality. These kits arrive on a pallet in many cartons and often get left in the driveway. Plan the path to the backyard: gate width, steps, side-yard width. Hauling the packaging away came up 51 times, so expect a lot of cardboard and foam.
- Wind. Wind was mentioned 23 times, and our own job notes say "anchoring for California wind conditions" because an unanchored roof is a sail. If you live in a Santa Ana, sundowner or coastal gust area, budget for anchoring from day one and lean toward a hardtop with a vented double roof.
Buy It, Then Let Zomg Stand It Up
Our crews assemble any brand you buy, from Amazon, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe's or Wayfair, anywhere in California. Gazebo and pergola assembly starts at $500 in our price book, louvered pergola installation starts at $999, and most finished jobs landed between $650 and $1,900 once anchoring, footings, old-structure takedown or haul-away were added. The crew squares it, levels it, anchors it for wind and takes the packaging away.
