Best Outdoor Kitchen Islands and Grill Kits (2026): Modular Islands and Grills Our Crews Assemble
A prefab outdoor kitchen island is the fastest route to a built-in grill: it arrives on a pallet, assembles in a day, and does not need a mason. The decisions that matter are the fuel (propane tank in the cabinet, or a natural gas line run by a licensed plumber), the clearance from the house, and whether the patio can take 500 to 900 lb on four feet. These are the islands and grills our crews assemble most across California.
Outdoor kitchen requests spike every spring and the prefab islands have changed the job. Instead of a block-and-stucco build with a mason and a tile setter, a modular island is a furniture assembly job with a gas appliance at the end of it. We assemble the island and set the grill; a licensed plumber runs natural gas if that is the fuel. Here is what we see and what to check before the pallet is scheduled.

Our Picks
Propane or Natural Gas Decides the Whole Job
Propane: the tank sits in the island cabinet. Our crew assembles the island, sets the grill, connects the regulator and leak tests. Done in a day.
Natural gas: no tanks to swap and cheaper to run, but a gas line to the patio is licensed plumber work with a permit in California, and the grill has to be the NG version (or converted with the manufacturer's kit). Plan the gas stub location before the island is ordered so the connection lands inside the cabinet.
Measure and Check Before You Buy
- Clearance from the house. Grill manufacturers specify distance from combustible walls, siding and overhangs, often 24 inches or more to the sides and back. Vinyl siding and wood eaves melt and scorch. Read the grill manual before choosing the spot.
- The slab. A stainless island with granite is 500 to 900 lb. Pavers on sand shift; a concrete patio is fine; a wood deck needs a look at the framing under the island's footprint.
- Level. Islands have limited leveling feet. A patio that drains hard toward one side shows up as a grill lid that will not stay open.
- Power. An outdoor fridge, rotisserie motor and pellet grill all need a GFCI outlet within reach. Extension cords across a patio are not a plan.
- Delivery path. The Mont Alpi arrives on one large pallet. Measure the gate and the path. Some backyards need the island walked in on a dolly in pieces.
- Cover. A grill under a covered structure needs ventilation clearance above it. Check the manual.
Install Difficulty, From the Crew
A pre-assembled island like the Mont Alpi is a half day for two people: uncrate, roll or walk it into position, level, install the fridge and side burner, set the grill head, connect propane, leak test with soap solution, and haul the crate away. A modular NewAge run is a full day: each cabinet assembles, then the run is leveled and joined, then the countertop goes on, then appliances. Griddles and pellet grills are one to two hours each.
Outdoor kitchen and grill assembly is quoted per job from photos of the patio and the box or pallet labels. Natural gas lines are run by a licensed plumber we coordinate. See general handyman services, book online, or send a quote request with photos.
Stainless in California
Within a few miles of the coast, stainless steel outdoor kitchens show tea staining within a season unless they are covered and wiped down. Inland, the enemy is sun on the granite and dust in the burners. A fitted cover and a spring burner cleaning keep either one looking new.
