Best Garage Cabinet Systems (2026): Steel Cabinet Sets We Install, and the Garage Measurements That Matter
A garage cabinet set is the heaviest furniture most people ever assemble: 400 to 800 lb of steel in eight to twelve boxes, on a floor that slopes toward the door, anchored to a wall that may or may not have studs where you need them. These are the sets our crews install, what to measure in the garage first, and why the slope of the slab matters more than the brand.
Garage organization systems are a steady part of our schedule across California, and the cabinet sets are the biggest jobs in that category. The brand matters less than three measurements: the wall, the ceiling under the garage door track, and how much the floor drops from the back wall to the door. Get those right and any set on this page goes in square and level.

Cabinets, Slatwall or Shelving
Cabinets hide things and lock. Slatwall and track systems show everything and change easily. Shelving is cheapest per cubic foot. Most garages we finish end up with cabinets on one wall, slatwall or a track above the workbench, and an overhead rack over the garage door. This guide is the cabinet piece; the slatwall and overhead rack guides are linked at the bottom.
Measure and Check Before You Buy
- Wall length minus the garage door opener rail, the panel, the water heater and any door swing. Lay the set's total width against that number with 1 inch of play per cabinet.
- Height under the door track. Tall lockers run 72 to 84 inches. On the wall the garage door runs along, the track and the open door sit 7 to 8 ft up. Measure from the floor to the bottom of the open door.
- Floor slope. A garage slab drops 1 to 2 inches from the back wall to the door for drainage. Cabinets along the back wall are fine. Cabinets along a side wall need leveling legs with enough range, and a set without them will rack and the doors will not close.
- Studs. Wall cabinets and tall lockers must anchor to studs. Find and mark them. Steel studs, block walls and finished drywall over foam each change the fastener.
- Outlets and the panel. You cannot cover the electrical panel; code wants 30 inches of width and 36 inches of clear depth in front of it. Outlets behind cabinets are lost unless the cabinet has a cord pass-through.
- Car doors. Park the car and open the doors. That is the line the cabinet faces cannot cross.
- Delivery. Eight to twelve boxes, up to 100 lb each, on a pallet in the driveway.
Install Difficulty, From the Crew
A six-piece set is a full day for two people: unbox and inventory, assemble each cabinet (the flat-pack sets are the long part), set the base cabinets on the wall line, level every one with the legs and a 4 ft level, anchor wall cabinets and lockers to studs, hang doors and adjust hinges, then fit the top and trim. Common problems: a slab with more slope than the legs can absorb (we shim and scribe a kick), studs that are not where the cabinet back wants them (a ledger strip solves it), and a door opener rail that was not in the plan.
Garage cabinet installs are quoted per job from photos of the wall and the box labels. See general handyman services, book online, or send a quote request with photos.
Floor First, Cabinets Second
If an epoxy or polyaspartic floor is anywhere in the plan, do it before the cabinets go in. Pulling a 300 lb set off the wall to coat under it later is the most expensive order of operations in the garage.

Do garage cabinets need to be anchored to the wall?
Tall lockers and wall cabinets, yes, into studs. Base cabinets with leveling legs are stable on their own but we anchor them too so the run stays straight.
How do you level cabinets on a sloped garage floor?
Leveling legs on the base cabinets, set with a 4 ft level across the whole run, and a scribed kick plate to hide the gap. Sets without leveling legs are the ones that rack.
How long does it take to install a garage cabinet set?
A full day for two people on a six-piece set. Flat-pack sets like Gladiator run longer than pre-assembled NewAge cabinets.
Can I put cabinets in front of my electrical panel?
No. The panel needs 30 inches of clear width and 36 inches of clear depth in front of it. Plan the run around it.
Do you install cabinets I bought online?
Yes. Any brand. Send photos of the wall, the floor and the box labels and we will quote it.
