Measure before you buy
Most returns on items like these come down to fit, and a returned item costs you a week and a trip. Four numbers settle it:
- Ceiling height: for overhead racks, measure from the floor to the ceiling and subtract the rack drop, then check the car and the open garage door still clear it.
- Door track: the opener rail and door track take up space near the ceiling. Measure where they run before you choose a rack size.
- Studs and joists: overhead and wall racks need solid framing. Note the joist direction and spacing.
- Floor space: measure the wall run and the depth you can give up while still parking.
Weight Ratings That Matter
{inline(P['fleximounts_oh'], 'Fleximounts 4x8 rack')} is rated for 600 lbs. Plenty for boxes and seasonal storage. Cheap racks max out at 300 lbs — not enough for holiday gear collections.
Joist Anchoring
Critical: rack must screw into actual ceiling joists, not just drywall. Use a stud finder, drill into solid wood, and use 1/2" lag bolts.
