The booked job mix general handymen see in this market
Ductless mini-split installs are full-day, high-value work: mounting the indoor head, core-drilling the exterior wall, setting the condenser pad, running the line set and confirming the flare connections and electrical. Per-job pay reflects that.
The Mr Cool DIY line uses pre-charged quick-connect line sets, which removes the EPA 608 requirement for a standard install and opens the work to skilled installers who are not full HVAC techs. Traditional systems requiring evacuation and charging still need certification.
Customers buying mini-splits are converting garages, ADUs, sunrooms and home offices — growth categories across California, and they almost always need electrical and finish work alongside the install.
