Leveling & Anchoring: Where Playset Safety Lives
A playset that isn't level rocks, and a rocking frame works its bolts loose a little more every weekend. California yards are rarely flat, so every build starts with the grade: up to a few inches of fall we dig in the high side and shim the frame dead level; steeper yards need a cut pad first, and we'll tell you that from your photos before you book. Then it gets anchored (auger anchors in soil, wedge anchors on concrete) because an unanchored A-frame with two swinging kids on it walks across the yard and tips. We finish with the safety pass: swing hangers set to equal height, slide seated and screwed, every ladder rung torqued, and clear fall zones checked around slides and swings.
The Two-Weekend Problem
Gorilla and Backyard Discovery manuals are honest: "two adults, 12–20 hours." That's two full weekends of sorting near-identical bolts into muffin tins while the kids ask if it's done yet.
